How to choose a foosball ball that fits your table and your playing style, plus two tournament-grade balls worth buying.
The ball is the cheapest part of a foosball table, but it changes how the whole game feels. A good ball grips the playfield, lets you pin and pass with control, and makes a satisfying sound off the foosmen. A cheap, shiny plastic ball skids, bounces and makes precise shots almost impossible.
Foosball ball sizes
Tables usually come with balls that fit their goal areas, but there’s no single standard size or weight. The common sizes are:

Types of foosball balls
- Textured (polyurethane): the most popular choice for competitive play. The textured surface grips the playfield and the players’ feet, so it’s easier to pin, pass and aim.
- Smooth: faster and more slippery. It works on some European tables but is harder to control.
- Cork: traditional, light and quiet, with plenty of grip. Common on classic European tables.
- Plastic (shiny finish): usually included with cheap tables. Avoid these if you can, because they’re slippery and unpredictable.

Tornado makes professional-grade foosball balls and tables for competitive play. Its pink textured ball is 3.5cm across and weighs about 1 ounce (around 28g). It’s best suited to the fast-paced American style of play and tables with a 3-man goalie arrangement.
It gives excellent control, so you can pass with a good grip and line up clean shots on goal. It also makes a distinctive, satisfying thud with every hit and fits most tables well. The downside: it can get stuck in the table corners.
Tournament Quality Warrior Red Textured Balls
The Warrior textured ball is a tournament-grade ball in bold red, which makes it easy to follow at all times. It’s 3.5cm across and weighs about 1.2 ounces (around 34g), slightly heavier than some other tournament balls.
It has excellent control and grip, and hugs the playing surface. Most types of foosmen can pin it down, although it can be slightly slippery on some tables.
